This beautiful New Hall coffee can and saucer are from the
famous New Hall factory and date from c1787-90. They are elegantly decorated
with a rich underglaze 'mazarine' blue border with on glaze gilding, including
foliate and ball swags as well as stars and dots. This is New Hall pattern
number 153 and is illustrated in 'New Hall and its imitators', by David Holgate,
colour plate F, page 64).

The body of the coffee can and saucer are of the new fluted
design and have a scalloped and gilded rim.

The border design is very attractive with the arched edged 'mazarine'
underglaze blue which is edged with a git line. On the blue border are
alternating gilded stars and dots. Further gilded stars appear within the arches
of the blue border. Below this rich border is a finely gilded border of
alternating foliate and ball swags

The open loop handle has a gilded line on both sides and down
the back edge.

The saucer is of the same fluted form and carries the same
decoration, pattern 153

The mazarine border with its very rich honey coloured gilding is
very attractive.

In the centre of the saucer is a gilt circle in which is a
gilded single flower.

This is a most attractive New Hall coffee can and saucer,
c1787-90. It is beautifully decorated in 'mazarine' blue and gilt decoration,
pattern number 153.

There are no manufacturer's marks, but this a New hall coffee can and saucer,
pattern number 153 and dating to c1787-90.
The coffee can is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks repairs or
restoration. the gilding is all in good order.
The saucer does have two very fine hairline cracks in the rim, as shown in
the two pictures far bottom of this page. these are fine and tight, so do not
adversely affect the saucer. There are also two areas of darker blue on the rim,
one of these is a small chip that has been painted in, the other just a blemish.
As well as these there is an extremely tiny and insignificant rim chip shown in
the picture below on the right.

Despite the imperfections to the sauce, this is a delightful New Hall Coffee
can and saucer for the collector of New Hall or early English porcelain.
