Caughley blue and white teapot lid, Blue and gilt 'Dresden Flower' pattern with mushroom shaped and flower gilded finial, c1785

This very pretty lid is the lid from a Caughley teapot of the 'Dresden flower' design, c1785. this low domed circular shaped lid is exquisitely decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with extremely fine and rich honey coloured gilding.

the decoration includes richly gilded blue 'Dresden Style' flowers. there is also a rich blue border with applied gilt chain decoration and dentil gilded rim.

The mushroom shaped finial has a very finely gilded flower applied to it.

There are no manufacturer's marks.

Condition:

This richly decorated Caughley teapot lid does have some damage. there is a chunk out of the inner rim, this of course would not show when fitted on top a teapot. there is also a very shallow chip to the rim of the lid. Both these imperfections are shown below. Despite these, it would a be a fine addition to a teapot lacking it's lid.
