A rare and charming New Hall tea bowl and saucer, beautifully
decorated with a blue and white print known as the 'Trench Mortar' pattern.

The tea bowl and saucer are of a moulded 'spiral shanked' shape. It was made at the famous New Hall
factory c1795 and is a very fine quality example.

The tea bowl has the moulded spiral shanked body and is set upon
a raised circular foot rim.

The rim of the tea bowl is gilded and a further gilded line runs
around the raised foot rim.

The tea bowl has the 'Trench Mortar' pattern in blue and
white around its body. This attractive oriental scene shows a beautiful thatched bamboo
house in a landscape of trees and mountains. I assume that the name of 'Trench Mortar' comes from what
appears to be a trench running in front of the house and to the right of the
house what looks like two lots of three mortars pointing skywards.

Inside the rim of the tea bowl is a rich oriental decorative
band.

The saucer has the same spiral shanked moulded body as the tea
bowl.
It is decorated with the same 'Trench Mortar' pattern. This attractive oriental scene shows
the same beautiful thatched bamboo
house in a landscape of trees and mountains.

The saucer also has the same decorative oriental type wide band
of decoration around its rim. The very rim of the saucer is also gilded.

There is no manufacturer's mark or pattern number on the tea bowl or saucer. It
is however, a New Hall tea bowl and saucer c1795.
This delightful New Hall tea bowl and saucer are in very good condition with

is a tiny amount of wear to the gilt decoration on the rim of the tea bowl and
saucer, which is very minor and is to be expected on items of this age.

This is certainly a beautiful tea bowl and saucer from the
famous New Hall factory and would be a perfect piece for the collector of New
Hall or early English porcelain.
