Barr Worcester Oval Sucrier and Cover, Blue and Gilt Decoration, c1800

An attractive oval shaped Barr Worcester sucrier and cover, c1800. Decorated in underglaze blue and gilt decoration.

The body and cover of this sucrier are smooth. The top of the sucrier and the outer rim of the cover have a rich cobalt blue underglaze border. This  has an applied gilt decoration of a single gilt line with an entwined gilded foliate swag.

The cobalt blue border is edged with a rich honey coloured gilded line. The rim of the cover is also richly gilded at the edge.

Around the body of the sucrier are charming gilt stylised flowers, including a 'morning glory' flower.

At each end of the sucrier's body are two moulded drop open loop handles. These are partially gilded and are very elegant.

As well as the cobalt blue and gilded border to the rim of the cover, there is a blue oval  near the top of the cover, which is edged with gilded lines.

There are three identical flower sprigs adorning the cover, equally spaced between the blue borders.

The finial to the cover is of an oval mushroom shape with gilded embellishmants.

The underside of the cover is marked with the incised scratched Barr Worcester 'Bx' mark. This incised 'B' mark was used at the Barr Worcester factory on tea wares c1792-1807. There is also the decorators mark of a pink 'P'. This particular sucrier would date to c1800.

The underside of the sucrier is also marked in the same way as under the cover. there is also a decorators mark of a gold 'P'.

 

This is a a charming oval sucrier, decorated in cobalt blue with elegant gilding, from the Barr Worcester factory c1800.

Condition:

This delightful sucrier is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only really minor imperfection is a little wear to the gilding on the rim of the sucrier body and loop handles, but this is minor. It is  avery fine Barr Worcester sucrier for the collector of Barr Worcester or English porcelain.
