The teapot itself, has a circular body which is 'shanked' (spirally moulded) to give a very attractive and well potted body. The shoulder of the teapot is decorated with a hand painted design, 'the red spotted flower'. This is a garland of stylised red flowers formed by five red dots. Each flower  has stylised purple foliage at an angle to the flower head. These red dot flowers are linked with a gilded ribbon that oscillates between the flowers. This is a very elegant design for a teapot.

At the top f the teapot's body, where the shanked moulding ends, there is a serrated gilded line. A  further gilded line runs around the base of the teapot's body.

The handle of the teapot is an open loop handle with an internal spur near to the bottom. This moulded handle is embellished with stylised gilded foliage down the back portion and at the points where it joins to the body.

The spout is elegantly shaped and facet moulded, beautifully balancing with the handle. The base portion of the spout is embellished with gilding. the tip of the spout is also gilded.

There is a raised collar at the top of the teapot into which the circular lid fits. Like the teapot body, the lid is moulded with spiral fluting and is of a shallow domed shape.

The decoration around the lid is the same red dot flower decoration applied to the teapot's body.

The finial of the lid is a well and finely potted bell flower shape. This type of finial is one that is associated with the Flight and Bar Worcester period. Thus, although this teapot and stand are unmarked, they can be confirmed as Flight and Barr Worcester from this finial alone, apart from the finely potted body and decoration. This finial is enriched with more of the honey coloured gilding.

The stand for the teapot is circular in shape with a raised rim. It is shank moulded around the rim and decorated in the same fashion as the teapot and lid. It has the delightful 'red spot flower' decoration around the inner rim of the stand and has the same gilt lines, one to the rim, the other around the base of the stand.

In the centre of the stand is a large 'red spot flower' with stylised purple foliage radiating from around it. the is no manufacturers mark on the teapot stand, it only has a gilded 'S' panted on the inner rim of the foot, this I believe to be a decorator's tally mark.

This is a charming 'Flight & Barr' period Worcester 'shanked' teapot complete with it's stand. Charmingly decorated with the 'red spot flower' pattern c1790.

Condition:

Generally the teapot, lid and stand are in good condition. There is minimal wear to the decoration and gilding and no repairs or restoration. The only minor imperfections are some manufacturing faults, including a firing crack on the front of the spout, as seen in the picture below. There is also a tiny speck of gilding missing from the rim of the spout of the teapot, again, this is minor.

There are a few tiny flakes around the under base of the teapot, these were where it stuck to the kiln in the firing process.
