The tea bowl has the Royal blue stripe equally spaced in six
positions round its body. The centre of each blue stripe has a white gap in
which there is a blue diamond in a gilt circle. The blue stripes are
bounded with gilded lines and on the blue strip a gilded cross design.
Between the blue stripes are festoons of stylised flowers and
foliage in underglaze blue and gold. It is certainly a very elegant design of
decoration.
The tea bowl has a scalloped rim which is also gilded.

The tea bowl stands upon a raised foot rim at the top of which
is a gilded line round the base of the bowl.

There are no manufacturer's marks on this tea bowl and saucer,
but they are from a set where several pieces are marked with the underglaze blue
'S' used at the Caughley factory c1775-90.
Inside the bowl of the tea bowl is an underglaze blue and gilded
star.

The saucer is also fluted and has the same charming decoration
as the tea bowl.
