The sucrier is made of fine porcelain and the bottom of the bowl is translucent when held to strong light and shows the characteristic Worcester 'duck egg blue' body.

The bowl of the sucrier has the fence pattern in blue around the outer bowl. The 'Fence Pattern', as this pattern is known, was a popular one at the Worcester factory and gets its name from the fence which appears in the main print on the sucrier's bowl and cover. The fence is surrounded by pretty flowers and foliage. This decoration is very crisp and beautifully detailed.

Around the other side of the sucrier's bowl is a further blue printed decorative landscapes, between which fly two birds. The scene to the left shows an exotic island complete with trees and a temple. The birds fly off towards another landscape of trees and hills. All these printed blue decorations are excellently applied and are very crisp and clear. The fine details of the trees and the birds is remarkable.

Inside the rim of the bowl is a double blue line running around the top.

The sucrier sit on a raised circular foot rim. There is a Worcester blue crescent mark on the underside of the sucrier.

The cover of the sucrier is beautifully potted and is decorated with the blue 'Fence' pattern. There is a charming rose flower finial to the cover. The delicately formed rose flower with its clustered petals and stamens, has a twisting stem terminating with a leaf on either side tying it to the cover. There is a double blue line edging the rim of the cover.

This is a most charming First Period Worcester sucrier and cover, delightfully decorated with the 'Fence Pattern' and would have been made at the famous Worcester factory c1770. A remarkable and fine quality piece of early Worcester porcelain for the connoisseur collector of Worcester or Eighteenth century English porcelain.
