This very fine quality tea bowl and saucer is moulded with 'shanked' (or spiral) lines which was the latest design in fashion at the later period of the eighteenth century. These moulded lines are very finely potted and create a most decorative effect.

Around the outside of the tea bowl there are three gilt Thistle flower and leaves.

A rich under glaze Cobalt blue border runs around the inner rim of the tea bowl, this is decorated with a trail of gilt leaves and berries. This decoration in blue and gilt is also applied to the saucer.

In the base of the tea bowl is a circular cartouche formed by a line of under glaze blue bounded by a gilt line on the outer edge and a scalloped gilt line on the inner edge. Inside this circle is a gilded Thistle flower and leaves.
