The teapot is made of fine porcelain and is translucent
when held to strong light and shows the characteristic Worcester 'duck egg '
coloured
body.

The teapot has the fence pattern in blue on both sides of its
body. The 'Fence Pattern', as this pattern is known, was a popular one
at the Worcester factory and gets its name from the fence which appears in the
main print of the pattern. The fence is surrounded by pretty flowers and
foliage. This decoration is very crisp and beautifully detailed. The fence
pattern is also applied to the teapot's cover.

To the left of the main fence pattern print is a further blue
printed decorative landscape, between which fly two birds. The scene to the
left shows an exotic island complete with trees and a temple. The birds fly off
towards this landscape of trees and hills. These printed blue decorations
are excellently applied and are very crisp and clear. The fine details of the
trees and the birds is remarkable.

The spout of the teapot is embellished with further blue prints,
a long flower garland on the underside and a single flower sprig on the top
portion.

The teapot has a moulded open loop handle which remains in the
white, with no decoration.

The cover of the teapot is of a low domed shape and has a
moulded delicate flower shaped finial.

Around the top of the teapot and the rim of the cover are a pair
of blue lines running around them.
The teapot has a raised neck collar, into which the cover fits.

A print of the fence pattern appears on the cover on the
opposite side to the charming flower finial.

The delicate flower finial to the cover is in absolutely
excellent condition, which is very rare to find.

The delicate flower head stands proud upon a thin tendril stem.
This stem links it to the body of the cover and has off it two finely moulded
leaves. The detail in the moulding of this flower finial and leaves is very
fine.

The teapot sits upon a raised circular foot rim, the underside
of which is marked with the Worcester underglaze blue crescent mark. The blue
crescent mark was used at the Worcester factory c1755-90. This very fine teapot
and cover, printed with under glaze blue 'Fence Pattern' would have been made at
this factory c1770.

This is a stunning First Period Worcester Teapot & Cover, Blue and White 'Fence
Pattern', Flower Finial, Blue 'Crescent' Mark, c1770.
