The body of the teapot is made from a heavy soft paste porcelain, which is beautifully moulded to give the pleasing oval shape with the crisply potted spiral shanked moulded lines.

Around the oval body of the teapot are delightful 'bourbon Sprigs' evenly spaced around it. These charming sprigs are formed with coloured enamels enriched with gilt decoration.

Around the shoulder of the teapot's body is a gilt scalloped line.

The foot rim of the teapot is also decorated with a band of gilding.

The shaped spout is decorated with moulded and gilded flutes at the lower portion.

There is a really delightfully shaped and moulded handle to the teapot which perfectly balance the spout. The handle shape has a 'kick-back' at the top and the top edge of the handle is moulded with a leave cap which is skilfully gilded.

The oval shaped lid, like the teapot, has moulded spiral decoration. It has a rim underneath to fit into the teapot and prevents it slipping off.

The teapot cover has exactly the same decoration of 'Bourbon Sprigs' as on the body of the teapot.

The finial is of a moulded oval form and is very beautiful. The moulding on this is so clean and has one the top portion finely moulded foliage which is edged with rich gilding.

Both the teapot and the cover are marked on the underside with the impressed or scratched 'B' mark of Martin Barr of the Barr Worcester factory. each also bares the painters mark of a '10' in puce. This magnificent teapot and cover dates from c1795.

Condition:

The condition of this teapot is extremely good with no cracks repairs or restoration. The gilt decoration is extremely crisp and bright for the age, with only a few tiny areas with minor wear, mainly to the top of the moulded and gilded leaf on the top of the handle. This is only minor and certainly does not detract in any way.

A magnificent teapot for the collector of Barr Worcester teapots or English early tea wares.
