(p1173)

The teapot, cover and stand are moulded with vertical flutes; known as the 'new fluted' shape.

The elegant teapot, oval in shape, has a  circular spout with the base portion fluted and gilded. The loop handle has an inward spur, this is a typical feature of Coalport handles at this period. The finial to the cover also has the typical Coalport shape, fluted on top and underneath and is gilded on the top half.

The decoration of the teapot and cover comprises evenly spaced various floral sprigs in monochrome brown. These are very finely executed and in their detail. The floral sprigs include a rose and rose bud as the main sprig.

The elegant spout is fluted to the first half portion, this then embellished with gilt foliate lines.

The tip of the spout is also gilded.

The loop handle is decorated with gilt elliptical dots down the top surface.

There are internal straining holes to the spout. There are no manufacturer's marks on the teapot.

The body of the teapot cover is fluted and decorated in the same fashion as the teapot.

The charming oval fluted and gilded finial of the lid is typical of the shape used by Coalport.

There are the same monochrome brown floral sprigs around the cover and the edge of the cover has an applied gilded line around it.

The oval stand to the teapot, is again fluted round the raised rim, this is decorated the same as the teapot and cover with the monochrome floral sprigs in brown and gilt line border design.

This is a most elegant Coalport teapot and stand that would make a fine display item for the collector of Coalport porcelain. It dates from c1810 and is beautifully decorated with very fine gilt monochrome floral sprigs.

Condition:

This fine Coalport teapot, cover and stand is in very good condition with no cracks, repairs or restoration. The only very minor imperfections are some slight areas of wear to the gilding, mostly to the base of the spout decoration on one side, the gilt line round the cover and spout tip, but it is really minor. There is also a tiny chip on the cover flange and some tiny fritting areas which appear dark. I have shown these very minor imperfections in the following pictures.

This is certainly a very fine Coalport teapot from the c1810 period and a beautiful one for any collector of Coalport or early English tea wares.
