Worcester 'spiral shank' moulded round cake or bread and butter plate, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and rich honey coloured gilding, including 'bluebell' flowers, blue 'crescent' mark, c1790(p1174)
This is a really excellent Worcester spiral shank moulded plate decorated in rich underglaze cobalt blue and applied rich honey coloured gilding. It has a wide blue and gilt border and has three symmetrically placed 'bluebell' flowers in the bowl of the plate. The very centre of the plate is decorated with a circular garland in blue and gilt within which is a blue and gilt central pattern. The plate is marked on the back with an underglaze blue crescent mark, this was used at the Worcester factory c1755-92. This particular small crescent mark was used c1783-92 in the 'Flight' Worcester period. This plate dates to c1790 and would have been part of a tea set and would have been one of two plates, one for cake, the other for bread and butter. The reverse of the plate has a raised circular foot rim and is marked with the Worcester manufacturer's mark of an underglaze blue crescent, c1790.

The blue crescent mark was used at the Worcester factory c1755-92. This particular small crescent mark was used c1783-92 in the 'Flight' Worcester period.
This delightful Worcester plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only EXTREMELY minor imperfection is a slight wear to the gilding on the high points of the scalloped rim.

This is a very fine plate for the collector of Worcester or early English porcelain.
