A charming Chamberlain Worcester milk jug of the 'Hambleton-fluted' oval shape, decorated with a gold Etruscan border, pattern 354, c1805.

The body of this delightful milk jug is of a slender oval or boat shape with vertical moulded fluting.

The decoration of the body of the milk jug is of an applied gold Etruscan border, a design quite synonymous with the English Regency period of the early nineteenth century. This pattern is also sometimes referred too as the 'Greek Key' pattern. It is listed in the patterns of the Chamberlain Worcester factory as 'Hambleton, gold Etruscan border'. This design is quite striking in appearance especially with the very rich honey coloured gilding.

The milk jug has an open loop handle. This is enriched with gilt edges and central line down the handle. there is a thumb piece at the top of the handle to help to grip it.

There is a slender pouring lip to the milk jug.

The rim of the milk jug and around the base is a gold line. the underside of the milk jug is marked with the Chamberlain Worcester pattern number 354 in gold.

Size and Weight: (values are approximate)

  • 5½" (140mm) in length from the tip of the pouring lip to the back edge of the handle.
  • 4¾" 120mm) in height to the tip of the handle.
  • 8oz (220gms) in weight.

Marks:

There is the pattern number 354 marked in gold on the underside of the milk jug. It comes from a teaset that has some pieces marked with the pattern number 354. This delightful milk jug, decorated with the 'gold Etruscan pattern' dates from c1805.

Condition:

This handsome milk jug is in good condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only minor imperfection is some slight wear to the gilding. It is a suburb example from the famous Chamberlain Worcester factory with this beautiful Regency 'gold Etruscan border' design.
