A very attractive Barr Worcester jug with a shanked (spiral fluted moulded) body, c1795. It is elegantly decorated with blue, red, green and finely gilded flower sprigs.

The circular shanked body of the jug is very finely potted with the spiral fluting that were the height of fashion at the end of the Eighteenth century. This moulding is very crisp.

The body of the jug is beautifully decorated with three elegant flower sprigs evenly spaced around the body. These sprigs are executed using blue, red and green enamels and finely embellished with beautiful rich gilded foliage.

Between the three main flower sprigs are two single gilded leave sprigs

There is an elegantly shaped open loop handle with an inner spur on the lower portion which aids the grip when holding the jug to pour.

The back edge of the handle is richly gilded with foliage and dots. The rim of the jug is also gilded, as is the foot rim and handle terminations.

The underside of the jug is marked with the 'Barr Worcester' scratched 'B' mark together with the decorators mark of a '10' in pink enamel.

  • 5" (128mm) length from the tip of the spout to the back edge of the handle.
  • 4¼" (108mm) height of the jug to the top edge of the handle.
  • 6½oz (185gms) in weight.

Marks:

The underside of the jug is marked with the 'Barr Worcester' scratched 'B' mark together with the decorator's mark of a '10' in pink enamel.

Condition:

This delightful jug is in really excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. Even the gilt decoration is in excellent condition with no rubbing. This really is a very fine Barr Worcester jug for the collector of early Worcester or early English tea wares.
