A very elegant and well moulded circular spiral shanked slops bowl, decorated with blue and gilt decoration including the gilt 'Fly' motif. This charming slops bowl was made at the famous  Worcester factory c1790.  It is marked with the Worcester open blue crescent mark used at the Worcester factory c1755-1790. This slops bowl dates from c1790.

This very fine quality slops bowl is moulded with 'shanked' (or spiral) lines which was the latest design in fashion at the later period of the eighteenth century. These moulded lines are very finely potted and create a most decorative effect.

 

The outer body of the slops bowl is delightfully decorated with the 'Fly' pattern, this includes three gilt flies positioned around the bowl, these having between them three gilt flower sprigs.

 

A rich underglaze Cobalt blue border runs around the inside rim of the slops bowl, This is decorated with a trail of gilt leaves and berries. In the base of the bowl is a cobalt blue and gilt wreath with a golden star in the centre.

   

A gilt line runs around the base of the bowl on the raised foot rim.   

This is a very beautiful Flight and Barr period Worcester Circular Shanked Slops Bowl, Blue and Gilt Decoration with the 'Fly' pattern, c1790.

Marks:

The slops bowl is marked with the Worcester open blue crescent mark used at the Worcester factory c1755-1790. This slops bowl dates from c1790.

 

Condition:

This delightful slops bowl is in very good condition with no cracks, chips, repairs or restoration. There is just very minor wear to the gilding and it really is minor. A very fine piece for any collector of early English tea wares or Worcester porcelain.
