This very fine quality milk jug is moulded with 'shanked' (or spiral) lines which was the latest design in fashion at the later period of the eighteenth century. These moulded lines are very finely potted and create a most decorative effect.

The body of the jug is elegantly decorated with hand painted 'cornflowers'. There are three such 'cornflower' sprigs evenly spaced around the body of the jug. Each sprig is beautifully painted using blue, pink and green for the flower and petals, with fine gilt foliage. These cornflowers are interspersed with small gilt foliate leaves.

The open loop handle of the jug has a moulded inner spur near the base and the back edge of the jug is decorated with gilt foliage.

The rim of the jug has an applied gilt line around it.
