A very elegant and well moulded oval spiral shanked milk jug, decorated with blue and gilt decoration including the 'Gilded Thistle' flower motif. This charming milk jug was made at the famous Coalport factory c1800. There is no manufacturer's mark but it is from Coalport.

This very fine quality milk jug is moulded with 'shanked' (or spiral) lines which was the latest design in fashion at the later period of the eighteenth century. These moulded lines are very finely potted and create a most decorative effect.
A rich underglaze Cobalt blue border runs around the shoulder of the jug's body, This is decorated with gilt stylised leaves and berries.. Evenly spaced around the body of the jug are three gilt 'Thistle' flowers.
The underside of the pouring lip is beautifully decorated with gilded foliage.
The lower portion of the jug's body, is a gilded fine decorative band. The rim of the jug is also gilded.
The slender rather angular handle is typical of this Coalport design for this period. It has applied gilt foliage decoration to the top and back edges. The base has a gilded '14' which is probably the decorator's tally mark.

There is no manufacturer's mark but it is from Coalport c1800.
This beautiful Coalport jug is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only extremely minor imperfection is a tiny bit of gilding wear mainly to the rim (see picture below). It is a very attractive jug for the collector of early English tea wares or Coalport porcelain.
