A very elegant and well moulded circular spiral shanked milk jug, decorated with blue and gilt decoration including the 'Gilded Thistle' flower motif. This charming milk jug was made at the famous Worcester factory c1795. There is no manufacturer's mark, but it is of the Flight Worcester period.

This very fine quality milk jug is moulded with 'shanked' (or spiral) lines which was the latest design in fashion at the later period of the eighteenth century. These moulded lines are very finely potted and create a most decorative effect.
A rich underglaze Cobalt blue border runs around the shoulder of the jug's body, This is decorated with gilt stylised leaves and berries.. There is also a blue and gilt decoration to the pouring lip of the jug. Evenly spaced around the body of the jug are three gilt 'Thistle' flowers.
The lower portion of the jug's body, is a gilded and blue fine decorative band. The base also has a gilded line running round it. The rim of the jug is also gilded.
The open loop handle of the jug has an inward spur towards the base and the back of the handle is decorated with gilt foliage.

There is no manufacturer's mark, but it is of the Flight Worcester period c1795.
This beautiful Worcester jug is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only extremely minor imperfections are a tiny bit of gilding wear (mainly to the rim) and some black speckling firing smut in the inside base (see picture below). It is a very attractive jug for the collector of early English tea wares or Worcester porcelain.
