Worcester Trio, Decorated in Underglaze Blue with Formal Flowers, Honey Gold Leaves and Stems, Gold Dentil Rim and Base, c1785

A very fine and delightful Worcester trio, comprising tea bowl, coffee cup and saucer, dating from c1785. This delightful trio is decorated with sprays of formal flowers in blue and gold.

The body of the trio is of smooth soft paste porcelain, the coffee cup has a moulded raised loop shaped handle.

The main body of tea bowl is beautifully decorated with sprays of formal flowers of underglaze blue flowers, their stems and leaves finely drawn in rich honey gold; the fineness of the gilding is exquisite. The decoration comprises three main flower bouquets with lesser sprigs between them. The top and inner rim are gilded, the inner rim with gilt dentil decoration.  The lower body of the tea bowl has a decorative gilt dentil band.

 

A single back to back flower sprig decorates the inside base of the tea bowl.

 

The main body of coffee cup is also beautifully decorated with sprays of formal flowers of underglaze blue flowers, their stems and leaves finely drawn in rich honey gold; the fineness of the gilding is exquisite. The decoration comprises three main flower bouquets with lesser sprigs between them. The top and inner rim are gilded, the inner rim with gilt dentil decoration. The lower body of the coffee cup has a decorative gilt dentil band.

 

 

The open loop moulded handle has an impressed line down its back edge and has applied gilt decoration to the back edge and points where the handle joins the body of the coffee cup.

 

The main body of the saucer is again beautifully decorated with sprays of formal flowers of underglaze blue flowers, their stems and leaves finely drawn in rich honey gold; the fineness of the gilding is exquisite. The decoration comprises three main flower bouquets with lesser sprigs between them. The top and inner rim are gilded, the inner rim with gilt dentil decoration. 

 

A single back to back flower sprig decorates the inside base of the saucer. This within a circle of dentil gilding.

There are no manufacturer's marks on any item, but is from the famous Worcester factory and dates from c1785.

Condition:

The condition of this beautiful trio is very good. There are no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration and the gilding shows little or no sign of wear.
