This very fine quality Tea Bowl and saucer is moulded with 'shanked' (or spiral) lines which was the latest design in fashion at the later period of the eighteenth century. These moulded lines are very finely potted and create a most decorative effect.

Around the outside of the Tea Bowl there are three gilt Thistle flower and leaves.

A rich under glaze Cobalt blue border runs around the inner rim of the Tea Bowl, this is decorated with a trail of gilt leaves and berries. This decoration in blue and gilt is also applied to the saucer.

The Tea Bowl has a scalloped and gilded rim and a gilt line around the raised foot. It is marked on the underside of the foot rim with a scratched 'B' mark of Martin Barr.

The saucer is decorated in the same fashion as the Tea Bowl.

A rich under glaze Cobalt blue border runs around the inner rim of the saucer, this is decorated with a trail of gilt leaves and berries.

In the base of the saucer is a circular cartouche formed by a line of under glaze blue bounded by a gilt line on the outer edge and a scalloped gilt line on the inner edge. Inside this circle is a gilded Thistle flower and leaves.
