A very pretty sucrier, printed with a delightful blue oriental scene of a pagoda in a charming landscape with houses, trees, boat and a bridge with two figures crossing it. This beautiful sucrier also has applied fine gilt decoration.

The sucrier is of a moulded shape; the cover of the Sucrier has a charming gilded button shaped finial.

This lovely sucrier is beautifully decorated with a blue and white print of an oriental landscape which includes a large pagoda. There are islands with houses, rocks and trees. There is a delightful oriental bridge over the water on which are two figures are to be seen crossing. The blue of this decoration is very vivid and rich in appearance.

Around the inside rim of the sucrier's body is a decorative band of oriental style blue decoration, with applied gilded decoration.

The sucrier stands on a circular foot rim; this has a gilt line around it.

There is the Salopian underglaze blue Caughley mark of 'S' on the underside of the sucrier. This mark was used at the Caughley factory c1775-90.

The circular cover of the sucrier is exquisitely decorated in the same design as the body. The quality of the blue and white decoration is wonderful, so very detailed and clear. The lid has a moulded button finial.

The cover has a gilded rim, as does the sucrier. Also, there is a delicate band of gilded decoration between the oriental band of blue decoration and the central pagoda pattern. This taking the form of a gilded line and a line of gilded half circles and dots. This oriental band of decoration and gilded decoration is also applied to the inside rim of the sucrier.

Condition:

This beautiful Caughley Sucrier is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only imperfection is wear to the gilding. This wear is worse on the inside of the Sucrier's bowl where some areas are quite worn as can be seen in the pictures. There is also a bit of wear to the gilding on the cover button finial.
