A rare Derby 'soup tureen stand' of elegant oval canoe shape, c1795. This lovely stand is marked with the puce Derby mark of a crown above crossed batons and dots, together with the pattern number '92'.

The oval shape has pointed ends that are gently curved upwards giving a very pleasing shape to the stand.

The very elegant decoration comprises a cobalt blue band that runs round the stand on which are gilded flower heads between which beautiful light blue enamel dots in groups of three. This cobalt blue band is edged with a rich honey colour gilded thick line on either side.

The actual rim of the stand is again bounded with a cobalt blue thinner band with a gilded line below and dentil gilding on the very rim of the stand.

In the centre of the stand is a raised oval with a raised rim in which the foot of the soup tureen would sit. Around the outside of this raised oval platform is a very delicate blue and gold decoration. This comprises a narrow cobalt blue line about which is a delicate gilded garland of foliage.

In the centre of the raised central oval platform is a magnificent gilded garter star with a cobalt blue oval centre with light blue enamel dots.
