A delightful Eighteenth century blue and white moulded sauce boat possibly attributed to the Liverpool 'Pennington' factory c1780.

This charming little sauce boat is of a good moulded form, with a panel on each side which is decorated with oriental blue and white scenes, a different scene on each side of the boat.

One side of the sauce boat there is a scene showing a pagoda-type of building within a landscape. In the foreground are three rocks (or Islands), similar to the Worcester 'cannon ball' pattern.

On the other side of the sauce boat is a scene depicting a house within a rocky landscape with trees.

The sauce boat is raised up on an oval moulded foot.

The moulded decoration around the body of the boat include flowers, scrolls and rococo panels for the two blue and white scenes.

There is a moulded open loop handle.

There is a well shaped and elegant pouring lip.

The inner rim of the sauce boat has a blue oriental decorative border from the handle to just short of the pouring lip.

There are no manufacturer's marks associated with this sauce boat, I have attributed it to be from the Liverpool 'Pennington's' factory c1780
