First Period Worcester Tea Bowl and Saucer, Painted Underglaze Blue with the 'Mansfield' Pattern, c1765-75

A beautiful early First Period ('Dr. Wall period') Worcester tea bowl and saucer. It is painted in underglaze blue with the pattern known as the 'Mansfield Pattern', c1765-75.

The tea bowl and saucer have smooth bodies. The tea bowl has the 'Mansfield' loose floral decoration painted underglaze around the outside in blue.

The tea bowl sits on a raised circular foot rim and is marked on the base with the Worcester open blue crescent mark.

The inner rim of the tea bowl has a blue decorative border and an implied floral sprig on the inner base.

The saucer, like the tea bowl, is decorated in the painted blue 'Mansfield' pattern of loose floral decoration in the centre with the decorative blue border round the inner rim.

The underside of the saucer is also marked with the underglaze blue open crescent mark of the famous early Worcester factory. The crescent mark was used at the Worcester factory between 1755-90.

Marks:

The underside of the tea bowl and saucer are marked with the underglaze blue open crescent mark of the famous early Worcester factory. The crescent mark was used at the Worcester factory between 1755-90. This 'Mansfield' decorated tea bowl and saucer date from c1765-75.

Condition:

This stunning early Worcester tea bowl and saucer are in generally very good condition with no cracks, repairs or restoration. The only minor imperfection are 3 small flake chips to the outer rim of the tea bowl, as shown below.
