A beautiful Worcester teapot and cover, decorated in a blue and white with the 'Temple' pattern (without a bridge). This delightful barrel shaped teapot is from the famous Worcester factory c1785.

The main printed scene appears on both sides of the teapot.

   

The 'Temple' pattern, of willow type (without a bridge) showing two tall temple -like Chinese style buildings on an Island, with two pairs of figures standing in the foreground. This print is associated with a wide Chinese - style ornate border.

 

The 'Temple' scene appears on both sides of the Teapot's body.

   

 

The shoulder of the teapot and the rim of the cover are decorated with an elaborate wide blue and white border of an oriental Chinese - type of design.

The moulded shaped spout is decorated on the top and lover portion with foliate decoration. The base and tip of the spout have applied gilded decoration.

There is an ear shaped handle to the teapot. The back edge of the handle has applied gilding as does the points where the handle joins the body.

   

The underside of the teapot is marked with a Worcester disguised numeral mark making it look like a Chinese mark. In this case the disguised mark appears to be an 8.

The cover of the teapot is decorated with a print of the 'Temple' pattern (without a bridge). It has the same wide Chinese - style border and gilt line and edge.

The finial of the cover is of a button shape the top of which has a blue and white flower type of design.

      

This is a delightful Worcester 'Temple' (without a bridge) pattern teapot and cover, c1780.

Marks:

This very beautiful teapot and cover are in generally good condition with no cracks, repairs or restoration. The only minor imperfections are given below:

There are two very small nibble chips to the inner rim of the teapot (the largest approx. 3mm x 1mm).

The cover has a small flake chip on its rim approx. 4mm x 3mm.

There is wear to the gilding on the rim of the teapot and the gilded line round the shoulder.

There is a lot of wear to the gilding at the base of the spout and to the very tip of the spout.

Despite these minor imperfections this is a stunning early Worcester teapot and cover c1785.
