A very attractive First Period Worcester slops bowl, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with applied gilt decoration in the form of flowers and delicate foliage. This bowl dates from c1775 and is marked with the underglaze blue open crescent mark of the famous Worcester factory. This mark was used at the factory between 1755-90.

 

The bowl is of a smooth body form and is raised on a circular foot rim. It is decorated with a main floral spray of rich cobalt blue flowers and buds amongst a wealth of very honey rich and finely applied gilt foliage. Also around the bowl is a smaller sprig and single bud decoration in the same style.

  

  

The rim of the bowl is gilded and on the inner rim there are gilt dentils. Inside the base of the bowl is the remains of a rather worn gilded leaf.

   

The bowl stands on a circular raised foot rim. Underneath the bowl inside the foot it is marked with the Worcester open crescent mark in underglaze blue.

This is a most attractive early Worcester slops bowl, elegantly decorated in blue and gilt flowers, c1775.
